LIME APPLICATION

Soils are classified as acid, alkaline or neutral and described by their pH value. A pH below 7 is acid, above 7 is alkaline and 7.0 is neutral. Soil pH is affected by rainfall, organic matter decay, fertilizers, pesticides and pollution. Lime may be needed if the pH of your soil is too low for the turf species you want to maintain. In addition to correcting soil acidity, lime adds calcium and magnesium to soil. Such nutrients are important to preserve a lawn's color and vigor and protect from damage caused by heat, drought or traffic stress. Calcium helps to regulate other beneficial soil nutrients such as zinc, copper and phosphorus. Lime can mitigate toxic effects from a buildup of damaging nutrients like aluminum, manganese and iron in your lawn that will reduce plant growth. The amount of lime required varies according to the degree of acidity, soil type and type of lime material. The first part of our treatment plan is getting your soil tested, so we can get the current ph and know what your soil has for nutrients and what it needs.
